[It could be a sudden appearance in his living room, or it could be a knock at his door. There isn't any way to predict it, so Magnus takes a welcome break from what he's been doing, namely: cleaning. It's terrible. He's had magic for these little chores, and not only is he realizing how much time he'd saved, he isn't very good at cleaning. In fact, he's grimy, sweaty, exhausted, and worst of all, he looks it.
He has to take a break to get ready. Even if his magic is gone, he isn't going to look like it. He showers, dresses, does his hair, his eyeliner—getting better at that, though it's still shaky around the edges—and he's at ease in his living room with a book when Loki does arrive.]
[Normally Loki doesn't teleport straight into Magnus' home. While his wards don't actually prevent him from entering, but it does make it much uncomfortable. After the warlock said his wards were weakened, though...
Well he had to see.
It was embarrassingly easy to get in, he barely even felt a tug when he crossed the threshold, so to speak. With very little warning he's standing in Magnus' living room in a smart, black suit.]
By the Norns, you weren't joking about needing help.
[At least he'd tidied himself up before Loki arrived, but it is a little embarrassing how easily he gets in. Reinforcing his wards should have been done earlier, anyone could get through them like this, but Magnus hasn't been willing to share with any of his fellow warlocks what's happened to him, and, well. Loki is...a friend? Yes, a friend. One to be somewhat wary of, but still within that general area of "friend."
He sets the book aside and unfolds from the sofa, spreading his hands with a little sheepish shrug.]
As you can see, I am somewhat overdue for an upgrade, but I haven't been feeling my old self recently.
A bit? Bane, it was like walking through wet tissue paper.
[If Loki has friends at all-- and the point is still very much in contention-- Magnus would be counted among them. He's known the warlock for a while and rather enjoys his company. While he doesn't think too highly of most practitioners of magic on Midgard the warlock is one of the few exceptions.
Thus why he is so perturbed by this sudden turn of events]
Do you want to explain what's going on while I'm working or after?
[His voice is definite. There is no 'if' in this question, only a 'when'.]
[Magnus opens his mouth with another line of excuses, then his shoulders slump. He crosses to the bookshelf and puts the book back, instead of sending it there with a little wave of his fingers. When he turns back, his fingers twist together in a sign of nervousness he'd normally never show.]
I'll tell you, but I'd prefer it to be during, if you don't mind. As you saw, my wards are all but vanished already.
[He crosses to the patio doors and closes them, as though that would make a difference.]
This isn't something I'd like shared with everyone.
[Loki watches him replace the book, resisting the urge to comment on that, hoping it will be touched upon in Magnus' explanation.]
Let's get to work then.
[He find the precise middle of the apartment (somewhere down a hallway) and takes a seat on the ground. He closes his eyes and focuses on repairing the natural wear and tear of the wards, beginning to softly glow green in the process. Luckily the framework of the wards hadn't disappeared, so all Loki had to do was reinforce the foundations. It's relatively mindless, leaving him open for the conversation at hand. ]
You're lucky I was free. A few more days and even the foundations of the spell would be gone. What the hell happened?
[As Loki settles in the hallway and starts his work—work which Magnus distinctly cannot feel, and isn't that unsettling?—Magnus mixes drinks the old fashioned way. This, at least, he's accustomed to, he still mixes drinks by hand even when he has his magic.
He carries the glasses to the hallway and sets one next to Loki, then leans against the wall.]
I...don't currently have my magic. I traded it. To my father.
Not so good when it part of it come out of his nose after hearing that mid-sip.]
What?
[Even though the task doesn't take much of his concentration he almost looses focus, the green glow around him dimming for a moment before brightening again as he re-focuses.]
What in the Nine Realms possessed you to do that?
[Even he wasn't ruthless enough to take another's magic in most cases]
[Magnus sighs heavily and sits, well out of Loki's way.]
Alexander's best friend was possessed by Lilith. I went to Asmodeus to free him. That was the price.
[Magnus doesn't dislike Jace as much as he used to, certainly, but he is...far more miserable without his magic than he'd expected. It's not only a slow, plodding existence when he's so accustomed to flying through life, he's tired all the time. And Alexander is pleased. That's almost the worst part.]
[He's never met the boy, but he remembers a few of Magnus' messages mentioning him. He's skeptical of any romance between someone as long lived as Magnus and a mortal and he'd told the warlock as much. Looks like someone didn't listen.]
[Loki wasn't the first long-lived friend of Magnus's to caution him about this course. He won't be the first to look at him askance for using the word "love" to talk about his involvement with a mortal man, either. But there isn't another word for it. Magnus knows, better than anyone, the pain he'll experience at the end of Alec's life, he'd walked into it with his eyes open.]
Alexander is worth it. ...at least, that's what I've been having to tell myself, since giving away my magic. It's been...ugh, it's terrible. I'm not myself anymore.
It would never have been as powerful as my true magic. Alexander had to talk Lorenzo into taking his magic back.
[Something that still stings, and something Lorenzo Rey will never let him live down. And since they're both immortals, he'll be putting up with that smug satisfaction for a very long time. Magnus rolls his eyes.]
If only it were that easy, but sacrificing a goat never really did anything. Killing something just puts the mundane in the right mental space to reach out to a Greater Demon. No, keeping my magic along with his makes him the most powerful demon in Edom. That amount of power is too much of a draw. I'm just. Stuck.

[Loki lets out a huff. Magnus was never the naive romantic type, which made this all the more perplexing to him. ]
You and this...Alexander are going to try to get your powers back, right? You can't live like this.
[Because the human better help him get his powers back. From Loki's point of view he is mostly to blame for this situation.]

Have you tried? Perhaps tried sacrificing a goat? He still likes goats, right?
